Today, Mrs. Rezan Kader accompanied the Minister of Agriculture
Abdulsattar Majeed and his delegation at the headquarters of FAO (Food
and Agriculture Organization) a specialized agency of the United
Nations located in Rome to meet with the Assistant Director General
Ren Wang from the Department of agriculture and consumer protection
and the officers responsible for water resources, soil, animal
production and health, plant production, agricultural
mechanization.
Minister Majeed thanked for their kind hospitality and the excellent
cooperation existing between FAO and Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He
expressed his appreciation for the ongoing projects in the hope of
strengthening these relations especially in light of the difficulties
that the Kurdistan Region is facing. The fight against Daesh, the
humanitarian crisis, the issue of the budget for the Kurdistan Region
not sent by the central government, the fall of oil price made the
situation unsustainable. The Kurdistan Regional Government needs
further support. In this framework, the Minister has indicated a
number of areas that need emergency interventions, such as: the
management of water resources and their distribution in the region,
rehabilitation of the water supply, reforestation, food safety.
Dr. Wang assured the Minister Majeed complete availability of FAO to
provide all necessary assistance to the Kurdistan Region especially in
this difficult period of crisis. The FAO's efforts will be to mobilize
the necessary resources to undertake further projects in the areas
mentioned and related activities.
