
Today, Mrs. Kader accompanied the Minister Majeed and his delegation
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet with the Director General
of Development Cooperation Min. Pl. Gianpaolo Cantini with the
Minister Baldi, Head of Emergencies and humanitarian activities and
Councillor Barattolo responsible for the Middle East, the Arabian
Peninsula and the Gulf countries.
Majeed thanked the Italian Government for its valuable support to the
Kurdistan Regional Government especially on the military and
humanitarian side, for the stabilization of the area, severely
threatened by ISIS.
The talks focused on relations between the Kurdistan Region and Italy,
the evolution of ongoing projects and areas for developing further
cooperation. Among those reported by the Minister Majeed:
refrigeration systems, storage and packaging of food products, the
development of agribusinesses to create jobs and training activities
thanks to the know-how of technicians and Italian companies.
The Director Cantini reiterated the support of the Italian Government
to the Kurdistan Regional Government in the fight against Daesh. The
contribution of development cooperation will continue to touch the
humanitarian sphere, the historical archaeological and agribusiness
sectors. Through the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari, in a
network with other institutions of the Mediterranean Basin, it is
possible to launch a program of activities aimed at developing the
sectors mentioned by the Minister Majeed. The Institute will assist
the Kurdistan Regional Government in the development of key agri-food
sector for the country's recovery. As for the humanitarian sector, the
Minister Baldi pointed out that the areas of health, food security and
education remain priority areas. Therefore, in 2016 it is expected to
increase the resources allocated for projects in place and to develop.
