Today, Mrs. Kader has been received by the Secretary General of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb.
Elisabetta Belloni.
The parties discussed on the current situation in the Kurdistan
region, the ongoing operations for the liberation of Mosul, the
protection of its dam, the difficulties with the Baghdad government,
the problem of refugees and displaced persons in the region, which
continues to aggravate the humanitarian emergency and the financial
situation, the need to change the mentality in order to think about
reconstructing the country and to ensure peaceful coexistence between
the various ethnic and religious components and finally the question
of the imminent independence referendum.
Mrs. Kader thanked the Secretary General for the constant support of
the Italian Government on the military and humanitarian level, and
lastly the willingness to cure a seriously injured group of pesmerga
in Italy. Finally, the High Representative invited Amb. Belloni to
visit the Region together with Minister Alfano in order to strengthen
bilateral relations and plan the reconstruction of the country once
defeated Daesh.
Ambassador Belloni praised the Peshmerga forces of the sacrifices in
the fight against Daesh terrorists reiterating to Mrs. Kader that the
Italian Government will continue to contribute on all levels both
individually and within the international coalition and will try to
arrange a mission in the Region as soon as possible.
