Today. Mrs.Kader met with the Vice-President of the Chamber of
Deputies, Hon. Marina Sereni and Secretary of the Foreign Affairs
Committee, Hon. Lia Quartapelle at the Chamber of Deputies.
The High Representative submitted to the Hon. Sereni and Hon.
Quartapelle the current situation in the region following the release
of Mosul and the issues surrounding the process of reconstruction and
reconciliation of the population.
In particular, Mrs. Kader spoke of the referendum on the independence
of the Kurdistan Region, which will take place on September 25th,
pointing out to be a referendum of popular will and advisory nature.
After several failed attempts to dialogue with Baghdad in order to
live in harmony in a united Iraq, it is time to claim the right to
self-determination, an expression of democracy, especially for a
people who have been victims of persecution and violence for years and
despite everything it has always been raised and tried to rebuild a
climate of stability and peace. In this framework, President Barzani
has assured that the private domain of each state will be respected,
thus avoiding any fears of a domino effect.
For this reason, it is crucial that Italy could send a parliamentary
delegation in quality of international observer to ensure transparency
and fairness throughout the electoral process.
In conclusion, it is now more than ever necessary that countries like
Italy, historically friends and allies of the Kurdish people, to
support the Kurdistan Region in this historic stage of the country.
