The President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masoud Barzani, met today with Italian Defense Minister Roberta Pinotti and her delegation, accompanied by the High Representative to Italy, Dr. Rezan Kader, in Erbil.
Numerous military officials from both sides attended the meeting, including the Italian Chief of Staff, General Claudio Graziano, and the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Regional Security Council, Masrour Barzani.
President Barzani expressed appreciation to his Italian allies for their support in the joint fight against Da'esh terrorists, noting that the Peshmerga have liberated vast areas previously under the terrorists' control.
Minister Pinotti, highlighting the role of the Peshmerga, stated that the EU and Italy's support will continue, emphasizing the priority of the fight against terrorism. It is no coincidence that Italy is the second-largest contingent in the international coalition.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the imminent start of work by the Italian company Trevi on the Mosul Dam, a vital infrastructure for all of Iraq. 450 soldiers will be deployed to defend the construction site until the dam is secured.
