Representation in Italy
On January 26, 2014, Dr. Kader, High Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, in collaboration with the DIACO Association, organized a celebration in honor of the Republic of Kurdistan in the city of Bolzano, home to a large Kurdish community. The Republic of Kurdistan, with its capital in Mahabad, was founded by the Kurdish Democratic Party in the Iranian Kurdistan Region on January 22, 1946. Dr. Kader, in her speech, emphasized the importance of this event. The Kurdistan Regional Government is particularly committed to preserving the memory of the Republic of Kurdistan by celebrating it annually. This Republic represented the first attempt at Kurdish autonomy and was intended to be the nucleus of an independent Kurdistan. During its eleven months of existence, Kurds were able to display their symbols for the first time, the first Kurdish theater was founded , women began to play an active role in political and social life, and great impetus was given to the school and educational program. Finally, Dr. Kader recalled that Mustafa Barzani , a historic exponent of Kurdish nationalism and father of the current President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Massoud Barzani, who was born in Mahabad, was an active participant in the creation of the Republic of Kurdistan, along with Qazi Mohammad. The High Representative concluded by thanking those present for their participation in the event and wished all Kurdish people the ability to achieve their rights peacefully and to always seek harmonious coexistence with all ethnic groups and religions, as is the case in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
