Today, Mrs. Kader visited the Substitute for General Affairs of the
Holy Father, Msgr. Becciu at the Holy See.
Mrs. Kader informed Msgr. Becciu on the current situation in the
region following the release of Mosul and the issues surrounding the
process of reconstruction and reconciliation of the population. The
Kurdistan Regional Government is still struggling to restore
brotherhood and ethnic-religious integration. Additionally, on 25
September, a referendum on the independence of the region will take
place, pointing out that it is a referendum of popular will and
advisory nature. President Barzani stressed that the right to
self-determination of the Kurdish people in particular that one of the
Plain of Nineveh, inhabited for centuries by the Christian community,
will be respected and that the reserved domain of another state will
never be violated.
In this historic moment, the support of the Holy See is more than ever
fundamental to having been the Kurdish people for too long victims of
violence and persecution and therefore deserves to regain a climate of
stability and peace.
