Visit of the President of the Petitions Committee to the European Parliament, Hon. Erminia Mazzoni

On Friday, February 1, Dr. Rezan Kader received a visit from the Chair of the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament, Hon. Erminia Mazzoni, at the Representative Office of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Hon. Mazzoni thanked the High Representative for her invitation to the Kurdish House, where she gave an interview that will later be presented in Kurdistan on the 25th anniversary of the commemoration of the Kurdish genocide. In particular, the Hon. Mazzoni presented her work at the Commission and her attention to human rights issues. For this reason, Hon. Mazzoni launched an appeal to Italian and European institutions, and especially to civil society, to support the petition for recognition of the Kurdish genocide.

Following this statement, Dr. Kader and Hon. Mazzoni engaged in an interesting conversation, during which the High Representative movedly recounted the story of pain and persecution experienced by the Kurdish people, but also the successes and progress that the Kurdistan Region is recording.

Hon. Mazzoni reiterated his support for Dr. Kader, inviting her to the European Parliament to continue the fight for the Kurds together so that crimes of this magnitude are never perpetrated again.
